Program Overview

 

EXPERIENTIAL TRAINING

In collaboration with the clinical faculty and a team of 10 licensed veterinary technicians, residents provide the clinical management of all animals utilized in research and teaching at the University.

During the second year of the program, residents participate in our 10 ULAM Concentrations, supervised apprenticeships in which residents apply relevant theory and practice to real life situations. 

Surgery

 

ULAM Concentrations:

  • Regulatory issues including the function and operation of the Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee

  • Animal husbandry operations

  • Occupational health and management of hazardous substances

  • Fiscal management  and administration of animal facilities and programs

  • Animal facility design and renovation

  • Pathology

  • Rodent health quarantine and surveillance 

  • Surgery in Laboratory Animal Medicine

  • Personnel training in use of laboratory animals

  • Germ free and gnotobiotic rodent facilities and techniques
