ULAM is obligated to recover the costs associated with the procurement and care of animals. These costs are billed to investigators' accounts or to departmental accounts monthly. ULAM charges cover such items as purchases of animals and supplies, daily care of animals and technical assistance. The costs of ULAM regulatory activities and of the research and teaching activities of the ULAM faculty are not recharged. These costs are subsidized directly by UM or are covered directly and indirectly by research and training grants awarded to ULAM faculty members.
