Commercial Vendors

If ULAM provides the animal care for a project, then the animals are ordered through ULAM. To order animals, submit a fully completed Animal Purchase Request (APR) to the ULAM office. Animals should be ordered as far in advance of need as possible to help insure availability and timely delivery. Visit the Ordering page on the ULAM website at www.ulam.umich.edu to obtain an Animal Ordering Deadlines/Vendor Delivery Schedule and links to animal vendors. APR’s are available to download from the ULAM website. If the web version of the APR is going to be faxed, then the e-mail address of a person responsible for this order must be included. The order may be faxed to ULAM at 936-3235. ULAM will send an e-mail confirming that your order was received and the requisition number assigned. Completed APR's may also be delivered in person to the ULAM Front Desk. To insure ordering deadlines are met, do not send animal orders through campus mail. The following conditions must be met prior to placing an order:

The order has a valid UCUCA approval number in the upper left hand corner, with the proper signature for deducting these animals from the UCUCA approval;
There is a balance of animals available in the UCUCA approval;

The U of M Account Number (shortcode) has been registered with ULAM via the Authorization to Charge form and the Principal Investigator responsible (or their designate) has signed the order.
Altered entries to the account number, protocol number, Humane Use Category and/or animal quantity have been initialed by an authorized signer.

Once the animals arrive ULAM husbandry staff will then deliver the shipment to the assigned animal housing room. Please review the list of Ulam New Arrival Responsibilities. ULAM personnel will initiate the clinical examinations and quarantining or conditioning protocols. Investigators are encouraged to examine their animals upon arrival to insure the animal order is correct.

Notify ULAM at 764-0277 within 24 hours of delivery if there are discrepancies or problems with your order. If you have questions about the animal ordering process, please feel free to contact the ULAM office at 764-0277 .
